Cookies, Briefly

This page is short because there is not much to say. Greater Knoxville Notes does not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies or analytics. Here is the whole picture.

What gets stored on your device

ItemWherePurposeHow long
Your cookie banner choiceYour browser's local storageRemembers that you accepted or declined, so the banner stays awayAs long as you leave this site's stored data alone

That is the only entry. Strictly speaking it is not even a cookie: it sits in your browser's local storage, it is never sent to us and it holds nothing about who you are. It simply records which button you pressed.

What does not get stored

  • No analytics cookies counting visits or measuring how long you stay.
  • No advertising cookies or retargeting pixels.
  • No social media cookies, because we do not embed social media widgets.
  • No login or session cookies, because there is nothing to log into.

So why show a banner?

Because it is better to say so plainly than to leave you wondering. The banner tells you what the site does, gives you a choice and then gets out of the way. Whichever option you pick, the site works exactly the same.

How to change your choice

  1. Open your browser settings.
  2. Find the section for cookies and site data, or privacy.
  3. Clear the stored data for this site.
  4. Reload the page. The banner will appear again and you can choose afresh.

Most browsers also let you block site storage entirely. The articles remain fully readable; you will simply see the banner on each visit.

Server logs are not cookies

When your browser asks for a page, the hosting service records the request in a short-lived technical log, as every web server does. That happens on the server side and places nothing on your device, so it has no bearing on the banner. The Privacy Notice explains what those logs contain and why they exist.

Other websites

Outside websites reached through our links may place cookies of their own, and their own policies explain them.

Questions

The Privacy Notice covers everything else, including server logs and email. For anything it does not answer, use the contact page.
